The My Last Litter program is designed to help curb the unwanted offspring of owned pets in our community. This program offers free spay, vaccinations, and microchipping for the mother. We then in turn take in the full litter of healthy, socialized kittens or puppies (min of 3 to qualify, and you must surrender the full litter) at 8 -10 weeks of age and 2.2 pounds. The babies are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. Pregnant pets also qualify for the program, please contact YHS as soon as possible. Feral animals do not qualify for the program. Paws and Pages
Paws & Pages is a unique 30-minute program that brings together readers and shelter pets who need a little extra love. Participants can book a private visitation room to read aloud to a shy or timid animal, helping build the pet’s confidence while strengthening their own reading skills. This calm, judgment-free environment supports literacy development and provides valuable socialization for our animals — a win for everyone involved. Whether you’re building reading skills or simply want to spend quiet time with a furry friend, this program creates meaningful connections that help both hearts and minds grow.
To schedule an appointment, participants must contact the adoption center by phone at 509-457-6854 and bring their own book to their appointment.
The Fresh Start Fix program is intended to stop the cycle of unaltered pets roaming and reproducing in the Yakima valley. When pets are redeemed from the Yakima Humane Society their owner is provided with the opportunity to have that pet altered at the YHS Spay and Neuter Clinic free of charge. Pets that are spayed/neutered are proven to leave their property less and have fewer negative behavior interactions. By providing this service, YHS endeavors to fix these concerns while striving to end the overpopulation of unwanted pets.

Pawsitive Protection
Vaccinations are important for puppies because it protects them from highly contagious and potentially fatal diseases. The parvo vaccine is part of the core vaccine protocol for all puppies.
Why the parvo vaccine is important?
Prevents the spread of disease: The parvo vaccine helps prevent the spread of canine parvovirus to other dogs.
Helps puppies build immunity: The vaccine helps puppies build up a resistance to the virus.
Reduces the impact of sickness: Even if the vaccine isn't 100% effective, it can significantly reduce the impact of the disease.
The Pawsitive Protection program offered by the Yakima Humane Society is designed to provide adopters with the opportunity to protect their newly acquired family member at no additional charge. Puppies adopted from YHS are current on vaccinations but with the Pawsitive Protection program the needed parvo boosters are also made available.
